Objective: SWBAT identify and correct misplaced and dangling modifiers.  SWBAT evaluate the falling action in "Romeo & Juliet."  SWBAT begin editing their rough drafts of their Personal Statements.

Do-Now: With a partner, read about Dangling Modifiers on the bottom of pg. 209.  Look at the example on the top of pg. 210 and re-write the sample sentence to correct the dangling modifier: "Depressed and disappointed, running away seemed the only thing for me to do."

Today: 1) Complete Dangling Modifiers Practice 3

2) In groups, read Act 4, Scenes 1-5 pp. PAGE 209-241.  Stop at the bottom of pg. 241 before the First Musician speaks.  Characters: Friar Lawrence, Paris, Juliet, Second Servingman, Lord Capulet, Nurse, Lady Capulet, First Servingman.  Read Act 4 online HERE.

3) As you read, Ms. Winberg will meet with you one-by-one to edit your rough drafts for your Personal Statements.  She will only edit your rough drafts if they are finished!

Exit Slip: Describe how Act 4, Scene 5 represents dramatic irony.  (Hint: What are we and the Friar aware of that none of the other characters are?)  Up until this point in the play, Juliet has confided in the Nurse and trusted the Nurse with her secrets.  Why do you believe Juliet does not tell the Nurse about her plan to fake her death?  Explain.

Homework: Final Copy of Personal Statement Due Tuesday, May 28!!!
